JUNIOR parkrun is to start in Hexham.
Tyne Green junior parkrun will take place every Sunday from November 27.
Children aged 14 and under will follow a two km course.
"parkrun promotes inclusivity and we welcome children of all abilities to take part", said the co-event directors. "Children are free to run, jog, hop, skip, and walk along the course. Our goal is for children to enjoy being active outdoors in a fun and encouraging environment.
"We encourage parents and children to volunteer as well. All events are only made possible by a happy bunch of volunteers."
Each free event is overseen by a DBS-checked run director and children can run with an adult or alone. There will also be volunteer marshals placed every 100 metres of the course.
Participants should meet next to the children’s adventure playground on Tyne Green. First-timer welcome is at 8:50am and a warm-up is at 8:55am for a 9am start.
Children can be registered online where their run and progress can be monitored: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/
The sessions are popular in Hexham and Prudhoe Riverside, where a junior run is also held, and encourage runners of all ages and abilities to run 5km at their local course in a free, mass participation event.
