A HEXHAM man was spared jail after pleading guilty to a string of driving offences.

Bryan Short, of Derwent Road, Hexham, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath, failing to stop for a police officer, careless driving and possession of a class B drug.

Short was handed an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was disqualified from driving for 30 months.

He was also hit with a fine, CPS costs and a victim surcharge as well as an order for forfeiture and destruction of drugs.
