TWO Tyne Valley organisations have played their part in providing a gift for the elderly and isolated this Christmas.

Simonburn-based Northumbrian Pantry and Go Local Food, Ovington, have collaborated with The Alnwick Garden Trust on a limited-edition apple and beetroot chutney.

One hundred jars have been donated to the trust's Elderberries programme for isolated, older people across Northumberland.

Apples were picked from The Alnwick Garden and beetroots were supplied by Go Local Food - a community-run co-operative.

Wellbeing programme manager at The Alnwick Garden Trust Tracey Graham said: “With the kind offer of help, once again, from local businesses, the Elderberries programme has been able to collate enough goodies, useful items and information leaflets to do doorstep distribution to 100 potentially isolated people aged 55 and above in Northumberland.”

Northumbrian Pantry was started by Alice Murray in 2019 and specialises in creating handmade preserves in small batches, many of which have won Great Taste Awards.

She said: “Community values are central to what we do at Northumbrian Pantry, both employing locally from within the village and sourcing regional ingredients wherever possible.

"We are just glad that we can support Tracey’s efforts this year with the Elderberries gifts goodies needed now more than ever."
