THE movie night episode of the latest Love Island series was the most complained about TV event of the year, Ofcom has revealed.
Former Ponteland High School pupil Adam Collard, who was also a contestant on the fourth season in 2018, and Cumbrian rugby pro Jacques O'Neil both starred in this year's instalment of the ITVX dating show.
Movie night - where clips are shown from the infamous Casa Amor - saw 2,630 complaints lodged to the broadcasting watchdog relating to “alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour by some contestants in the villa”. No formal investigation was needed because of how the behaviour was put into context, the regulator said.
Some 129 of the complaints were made after bombshell Adam reentered the Majorcan villa in a never-before twist and on Jacques' wellbeing in the lead-up to and during his departure from the island.
Personal trainer and gym owner Adam finished in fifth place after he and Welsh paramedic Paige Thorne, who had been coupled up with Jacques, were voted the least compatible couple by the public. The pair, who narrowly missed a place in the final, had at one point, been the bookies' favourite to win.
