A PRUDHOE baker was commissioned to make a cake for North East actress Denise Welch.
Janet Taylor, of Taylored Cheesecakes & Bakes, made the birthday cake for the tv personality’s husband Lincoln Townley who was celebrating his 50th birthday.
Taylored Cheesecakes & Bakes was set up around four years ago and now supplies local coffee shops and caters for private functions, including children’s parties, across the region.
What first started as cheesecakes, Janet has now also added celebration cakes, treat boxes and just about any other homemade baked good to her offering.
“I’ve not baked for anyone famous”, she said. “So, it was nice to be recognised by Denise.
“She put a post on Instagram and I’ve had loads of followers and likes – I didn’t expect it.
“I would love to do Matty Healy’s.”
Matty Healy is the son of Denise and former husband Tim Healy, of Newcastle, and is the lead singer and guitarist of award-winning band 1975.
Janet, who can ‘taylor’ orders to customers’ needs and tastes, is looking to expand the business in the new year and would like to work with other local, small businesses.
She added: “A lot of people know about my business, but a lot of people don’t. I would love for the business to expand, but it had to be at the right kind of level I can cope with.
“I’ll have a quiet January, then by February half term, everybody is out and about again.
“I have loads of ideas; already I’m thinking of Easter but it’s trying to do something that someone else in the area isn’t.
“Lockdown was great for my business. I couldn’t keep up with the amount of afternoon teas – especially in the summer. I was inundated and the feedback was phenomenal.
“I love what I do. I would love my own little outlet – that’s always been my dream”.
Janet currently works alone in a bake room on the side of her house. Her husband delivers orders.
Denise Welch’s dad Vin Welch, of Ebchester and long-serving member of Stocksfield Golf Club, died last year.
