WE took a look back at the times new restaurants have opened in and around the Tynedale area. 

Charred Bar and Grill opened in 2020 and specialised in steak cooked on charcoal flames, lobster and fresh local produce.

Little Mexico, now owned by Daniel Contreras, incorporated a juice bar into their premises on Hexham's Market Street in 2021.

Little Mexico has its own tortilla machine, and everything from their nachos to their salsas are home-made.

Specific chillis and beans from Mexico are used at the restaurant.

Customers can choose from Quesadillas, tacos, burritos, salads and more, with a variety of fillings on offer.

The Hexham Tans closed in 2015 and reopened in 2016 when The Hextol Foundation, an independent charity which works to support people with learning disabilities and mental ill-health, stepped in to save the service.

For more than 20 years, The Tans provided a vital training service known as the Opus Project, providing work and rehabilitation for people with mental ill health. 

Reopening as The Hextol Tans, it continues to provide working opportunities for people who have a learning disability or mental health condition which limits their ability to obtain regular, supported and purposeful work.

In 2015, The Heart of All England in Market Street was reinvented as The Heart of Northumberland, becoming a family friendly pub with its own beer garden.

In October 2020, Theresa Lightburn reopened the Tap and Spile pub during the Covid pandemic.

The pub was once home to a butchers and later the Criterion Hotel. It is rich in history and has long attracted crowds.
