A FUNDRAISER set up in memory of 15-year-old Holly Newton has amassed over £8,000.
The gofundme page started by friends of the family has more than doubled its initial £3,000 goal.
At the time of writing, £8,125 had been received from more than 500 generous donors who all offered their sympathies.
Organisers say the fundraiser is to help take the stress away from the grieving family.
They describe Holly as a "beautiful 15-year-old that loved dancing and will be sadly missed."
It comes after a 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with stabbing Holly to death in Hexham.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before a district judge at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court on Monday after being charged with murder, attempted murder and having a knife.
He was remanded into youth detention accommodation until his next appearance at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday, February 1.
Popular Holly died in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the Priestpopple area after 5.10pm on Friday.
Another 16-year-old boy also suffered injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
