EXTRA police officers are in Ponteland today following reports of two children being approached by a man and asked to get into a car.
At 6.40pm yesterday (Tuesday), police received a report that the children were asked to get into a car on Barnaby Way on the Jameson Manor estate.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Both children ran off immediately and were unharmed, but were left shaken.
"Inquires are currently ongoing as to the circumstances surrounding the incident and extra officers are in the area today to provide reassurance."
