Wentworth car park in Hexham will be getting a new look and will be closed between 9pm until 6am on February 10,11 and 12.

The work consists of resurfacing the car park in some areas and putting new road markings on the ground.

This corresponds with the council's decision to ecourage residents and visitors to use the new car park on Alemouth Road near Travelodge.

The council proposed to remove all the long-stay spaces but made a u-turn on the decision after many complaints.

Wentworth currently has 283 long-stay bays, which the council had proposed to switch to four-hour-stay bays. The changes would have resulted in the loss of 33 long-stay spaces.

Now the council has proposed to retain 100 of the all-day parking spaces at Wentworth car park, while the remaining all-day spaces will be converted to medium stay.

A NCC spokesperson said: "We are resurfacing areas, not the whole carpark and also doing road marking with the new layout for the carpark between 9pm and 6am on the 10th, 11th and 12th of February.

"Residents and businesses have been letter dropped and advance signs have been put out.

"We'll also be placing signs up advising motorists of additional parking at new car park at the Travelodge.

"Every effort will be made to minimise the effects and duration of the works."
