WATER bills are set to increase by 54p a week.
It comes as Northumbrian Water invests £510m in the North East for 2023-4 to improve the region’s water and sewer network.
Customers will see an increase in their bill, with the year's charges rising by around £28.
Northumbrian Water chief executive, Heidi Mottram, explained: “This significant investment in the future of the North East's water and sewer network is necessary to continue delivering a service our customers can rely on, including clean, clear, and great tasting tap water, as well as protecting the environment.
“We do understand, however, that any increase in water bill prices can be a concern for our customers.
"Last year, we helped 65,000 customers with financial support and we want to reassure our customers that we are continuing to offer a wide range of support for those who need it.”
From April, Northumbrian Water customers will be paying on average £1.07 per day for their water and sewerage services, but their bills remain among the lowest combined water and wastewater charges in England, the company has said.
A number of different financial support options, from payment breaks to payment plans, and discounted bills are available to customers.
