Two residents have been given an honorary title at a town council’s event.
Hexham Town Council has recognised the work of its two residents Les Hare and Margaret Maughan who both have been awarded the title of Hexham's Honorary Bailiff and Steward for 2023 at the Mayor's Reception.
Mayor Derek Kennedy who hosted the event and said: “Hexham is so lucky to have so many voluntary organisations and individuals that give so much free time and their skills to the town.
"We are so fortunate to have people who care for our community and want to give back and annual reception is to recognise those who work behind the scenes to make things happen, the Hexham Town Council applauds these efforts.”
Councillor Steven Ball proposed Mr Les Hare for his outstanding voluntary work as Treasurer of Hexham Community Centre for 29 years and Councillor Alison Smith proposed Margaret Maughan, the founder and manager of the Minerva Centre on Hallstile Bank in Hexham.
