A NEW reading den was opened by two authors for students of a first school.
Whittonstall First School has had a new reading shed installed for its pupils.
Monique Scott was one of the authors, and she read two of her books to the whole school in the hall.
The school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) agreed to offer Year 3 and Year 4 £1,000 from funding raised by parents.
Students came up with their own ideas on how to spend this money and presented their ideas to the PTA.
Ideas ranged from a class pet, football goals and a reading shed.
A spokesperson from the PTA said: "Everything was in-house except the shed which we had to buy.
"The reading shed was built by one of our lovely parents on his days off, and Frank's the Flooring Store donated the carpet.
"PTA members painted and decorated the shed and sourced materials ready for the opening. Laura our lovely parent and PTA member who helps in the library also helped sort the books," they said.
Another parent designed the tree on the outside of the shed and the school's art club helped paint the leaves.
The shed's sign was designed by a PTA member and made by a sign company owned by one of the parents.
