Two men have been fined over £2,000 for waste-related offences.
The Environment Agency has prosecuted George Dunkerley, of Nenthead, and Ross Cook, of The Roundway in Newcastle, for waste related offences during a 2022 investigation.
Officers from Eden Local Focus Hub conducted the joint waste operation with partner agencies at a farm in Nenthead.
On Wednesday, April 12 George Dunkerley pleaded guilty to operating a regulated facility for disposal of waste without an environmental permit. This led to a total fine and costs of £2,588.
Additionally, Ross Cook pleaded guilty to unlawfully depositing controlled waste at a Nenthead Farm without a permit and received a total fine and costs of £2,027.
Sergeant Jack Stabler of Cumbria Police said: “The fines of both individuals reflect the seriousness of unlawfully disposing of waste in Cumbria.
"The waste at this farm was a mix of commercial waste from the North East.
"This investigation required numerous partner agencies such as Local councils, county councils and RSPCA. We regularly work with key stakeholders for such operations."
"Please refer to the Environment Agency for any specialist advice in relation to such matters."
