AHEAD of the King's Coronation, we looked back at the times he has visited Northumberland over the years.
On the day of Queen Elizabeth II's death, September 8, her eldest son Prince Charles ascended to the throne becoming King Charles III.
In September 2018, the then Prince of Wales visited Hexham Abbey, and a special Produced in Northumberland market was held in the market place.
He met some of the county’s tradespeople at the market, before touring the historic Hexham Abbey and its crypt.
Prince Charles’ visit to the Abbey coincided with the launch of its new charity, Hexham Abbey Heritage Development, aimed at protecting the building’s long-term future, which includes a new roof and the conservation of unique 15th century panel paintings.
King Charles' visit to Hexham overran significantly as he was too busy chatting. Among his duties during the 2018 visit was to officially open the Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre.
He opened The Sill alongside the Duchess of Northumberland and Northumberland National Park’s Tony Gates.
He visited the Kielder Salmon Centre and hatchery at Kielder Water in 2018.
In 2006, the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker-Bowles visited Bellingham.
The Prince of Wales had been the patron of the charity Salmon and Trout Conservation UK since 2003.
In 2002, King Charles opened Cancer Bridge in Hexham, a holistic centre for cancer patients and their carers.
He spoke with Northumberland-based artist Mary Ann Rogers, who donated pictures for the centre.
Prince Charles rounded off the visit to Northumberland with a three-minute meditation session at the cancer treatment centre, then promptly asked if the exercise could be carried out at home.
King Charles has also visited Newcastle, Morpeth, Alnwick and Sunderland.
