PEOPLE in Hexham are being invited to come together and celebrate the King's coronation at a community picnic in the Abbey Grounds on Sunday, May 7.
The picnic, organised by Hexham Community Partnership and supported by Hexham Town Council, is part of the nationwide Big Lunch initiative that aims to bring communities together to share friendship, food and fun.
Free activities at the event, which will take place from noon until 3pm, include a giant bouncy slide, face painting, rounders, a graffiti wall, kids’ crafts, and photo ops with life-size cut outs of the Royal couple.
Tyne Valley Big Band will be playing a live session in Hexham bandstand and a vintage 1950s Green Goddess fire engine will also be in the park.
Jez Light, operations manager for Hexham Community Partnership, said: "The Coronation Bank Holiday weekend is the perfect opportunity to bring people together.
"We’d like to invite everyone to grab a picnic, get together in the park around the bandstand and enjoy a relaxed Sunday afternoon."
