A PETITION has been set up to save a local Barclays branch.
Prudhoe Town Cllr and local Business owner Tracy Gilmore, is asking residents to sign a petition to keep the Prudhoe branch open after it was announced it would be closing on Friday, August 18 this year.
Barclays saw a decrease of transactions in the branch but an increase of customers using online banking instead. It was also announced the Haltwhistle location also be closing on August, 11.
Speaking about the petition, Cllr Gilmore said:"Prudhoe has had a local Barclays Bank as-long I can remember, and I’m sure many of you will like me be appalled that Barclays are closing this branch.
"Not only does Prudhoe have a larger population than Hexham but also serves many town and villages surrounding.
"Our aging population are not always computer savvy with online banking banking and mobile banking and prefer the face to face contact they receive from our high street bank.
"Anyone who has used this branch in the last few months will agree there is always a queue out of the door.
"In my opinion more staff are required to service the demand.
"I am asking if you value our high street bank to sign this petition to ask Barclays to reconsider their decision to close our Prudhoe branch."
