A BRAND new fun dog show is set to take place in the North Tyne this summer.

It is hoped the 'Scrufts Dog Show', which will take place on Saturday, July 22 at Wark's village green between 12 and 4pm, will help raise funds for Wark Town Hall.

There will be 11 different classes: most loveable dog, most loveable bitch, most loveable puppy under 12 months, dog owner lookalike, best fancy dressed dog, waggiest tale, cuddliest dog, best groomed dog, friendliest dog, best treat catcher and best bark.

The winner of each class will then be entered into a final Best in Show event.

There is a £5 registration fee, which allows people to enter as many classes as they like.

Tea, coffee and cake will be available in the hall.

Hadrian Vets, Battlesteads, K9 Clip Joint, Canny Canines, the RSPCA, Wark Post Office, Wark Shop, the Grey Bull, Avon Wark, Platinum Pet Food, Natural Northumberland, County Store Bellingham and Bellingham Garage Service Ltd are all sponsoring the event.

"Hopefully it's going to be good," said Jason Riches, one of the hall's trustees. "We're just going to see how it goes. If it proves successful we can make it an annual event, and get bigger and better."

Jason added they are trying to raise the hall's profile and for it to be used by the community more.

The hall was used as a warm hub for three days a week during the winter, and quizzes, curry nights, and a regular Friday coffee morning are among the events which have taken place there recently.

"It has been prominent in its day, and we want to try and raise its profile again," said Jason. "She's an old girl, but we're trying to make her shine."
