As outdoor activities become more popular with the promise of warmer weather, we asked our readers where they thought is the best place to play a round of gold in Tynedale.
Here is what they said.
Slaley Hall and Maften Hall were mentioned the most times by readers. Slaley Hall, Coal Road in Hexham has two 18-hole Championship courses that have played host to over 20 European Tour, European Seniors Tour, PGA Cup, and now Asian Tour events. Maften Hall in Maften, has an all-year-round 10-bay Driving Range, impressive stock in our Pro-Shop, and coaching for all levels of abilities.
Gary Nixon said: "Maften is in fantastic condition."
Lee Robertson agrees and adds:"You say 'the best' so it has to be Slaley Hall, Matfen, or Close House."
Bill Moulding said: "If cost and time are a factor and your short of both , then Tynedale Golf Course on Tyne Green, if neither is a factor then Slaley, two exceptional courses."
Allendale Golf Club
Allendale Golf club in High Studdon in Allendale was also highly favoured by golf enthusiasts. The Allendale course is tucked away in the hills of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and must therefore be discreet. Something a lot of people appreciate.
Dave Curran said:"Allendale is probably the most picturesque. Interesting course in great nick set on a hillside with fantastic views down the Allen Valley."
John Colman and Langley Harris agreed.
Haltwhistle Golf Club
Haltwhistle Golf Club is an 18-hole, 5532-yard, par 69 golf course that has well-maintained greens across land steeped in the history of the Roman occupation and the infamous 'Border Reivers'. Indications of the Roman remains may still be defined by various earth mounds on the course.
Something one reader Anthony Timber Stewart noted was the price, he said: "£10 for a day ticket."
Bellingham Golf Club
Bellingham was a nine hole course from being established in 1893 until 1996. The original nine-hole course is largely intact and is made up of the holes from the first to the sixth and from the sixteenth to the eighteenth with the new nine holes opened in 1996 running from the seventh to the fifteenth.
Angie Wanless and Gladys Macdonald tagged this venue as the best.
Gladys said:"Fantastic course and beautiful scenery.
Other venues mentioned were Brampton, Tynegreen and Stocksfield Golf Club.
