A CHURCH in Hexham has welcomed the news of becoming the first of its kind in the town to hold same-sex wedding registrations.
The Hexham Trinity Methodist Church on Beaumont Street decided to vote to register as a same-sex wedding registrator after being given the green light at The Methodist conference, the governing body of the Methodist Church in 2021.
Two years later and Trinity was finally registered to hold both opposite-sex and same-sex weddings.
Elizabeth Box, one of the stewards at Hexham Trinity Methodist Church said: "The timing is fabulous, with Hexham holding it’s first Pride events this year.
"We are very proud to be the first church in Hexham to be able to welcome people from the LGBTQIA+ community to be married.
"Trinity has always been a place for everyone and we want Hexham to know of the important, inclusive step we have taken. All are welcome, not just for weddings but on Sunday too.
"Our current minister, Reverend Jenny Porterpryde, has said that it is exciting to be able to welcome everyone to Trinity and to marry any two people who wish to have a church wedding."
