THE MP for Hexham and Minister of State for Employment discussed new Universal Credit payments which came into force today (June 28) on Good Morning Scotland.
Guy Opperman MP was interviewed by presenters Gary Robertson and Laura Maxwell on this morning's episode of the show.
Parents receiving Universal Credit will be able to claim hundreds of pounds more to cover their childcare costs from today.
Those on the benefit with one child will be able to claim back £951 per month which increases to £1,630 for parents with two or more children.
Guy Opperman showed his support for the increase on the radio show: "It's a 47 per cent rise in the degree of support, it is a massive amount of extra support. It gives a better, brighter future for working parents.
"Bluntly, this is an opportunity for us to support working parents up and down the UK and tens of thousands of people will benefit from this change.
"These are dramatic changes and I think anything that sees a near 50 per cent increase in money towards childcare is a good thing."
