A COUPLE of changes will be made to a much-anticipated fireworks event including, new organisers, 'quieter' fireworks sounds and update on a bonfire.
Hexham Town Council promises residents will still have ‘spectacular’ fireworks show in November after announcing they have taken over the responsibility of organising the event from the Hexham Round Table, who had the role for 70 years.
Mayor Derek Kennedy said: "Hexham Town Council along with its partners Hexham Community Partnership will be taking over the responsibility of organising the fireworks.
"It is the first year that the council have taken over the duties but look forward to organising the event.
"The council decided to take over from the Hexham Round Table due to the lack of volunteers on the night and hope to continue the popular event.
"We know it is an event a lot of people and tourists come for - so we hope it will go well.
"Hexham Community Partnership will help with the display but we are also looking for volunteers to help at the gate in the Sele.
"We have listened to suggestions and this year will be trialling new fireworks that will be quieter than the normal ones, so it will be better for the area, pets and anyone who does not like loud noises.
"The only thing we will not have this year is the bonfire, due to the organisation, permits, we are not prepared and only have a little amount of time."
