WE shared the news that plans are underway to put Hexham on the map to be one of the most festive towns in the North East, as council officials start planning in July.

Hexham Town Council hopes to bring more visitors to the town at Christmas by working with their new contractor Gala Lights to make the town more attractive during the Christmas season.

Along with new Christmas light designs, the council hopes to extend the decorations down Back Street and over the River Tyne on the bridge.

Here's how readers reacted.

Cody Doherty said: "I think what would be lovely is if they got Christmas lights to go along past the hospital on the street lamps. Hexham needs a lot more Christmas lights. Prudhoe has fantastic ones."

Bill Moulding added: "Well done the Town Council, it’s great to see the progress you are making what with concerts in the park, guaranteeing the Bonfire and now the Christmas Lights."

Vikki Firth said: "Absolutely about time Hexham invested in Christmas lights. Haltwhistle has a lovely display and put Hexham to shame, so be lovely to see the town all lit up bringing visitors far and wide into the centre."

Jenny Gibson said: "Hope they are going to be along Fore Street, Priestpopple and Battle Hill."

Tracy Whitfield Scandle added: "Sounds good. Hexham's festive lights could do with an upgrade."
