A BOY has achieved his goal of walking 82 miles of Hadrian's Wall in four days to raise money for two charities.
Jacob Alltree, 10, walked from Bowness-on-Solway in Cumbria to Wallsend starting on July 30, with his dad Dale, to raise money for Newcastle Rugby Foundation and Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA).
Jacob, from Haltwhistle, finished the walk on Wednesday, August 2 and raised a total of £3,148 to distribute to the two chosen charities. He has exceeded his original goal of trying to raise £1,000 for each charity, especially the rugby charity which may not be familiar to many people.
Overall, at the end of the fundraiser, Newcastle Rugby Foundation will gain £1,299 and GNAA will get £1,849.
Jacob said: “It was hard, but I am happy me and my dad finished it in four days.
"I'd like to thank everyone that has donated so far. I am really grateful and I have passed my targets."
Jacob is described by his mum Lorraine as 'very outdoorsy' and a massive rugby fan, so the challenge was no obstacle for him.
Lorraine said: "Dale and I are incredibly proud of Jacob and even though we encouraged him to do the challenge over five days he was determined to do it four.
"He has been so positive throughout and even though the weather was not kind to them - and at times he was tired - he never wanted to quit and powered on.
"The money he has raised is amazing and he deserves so much credit for what he has accomplished!"
Jacob added: “I enjoyed the challenge with my dad and hours of word association and guessing the rugby players' names. When I was feeling down, we played games to help keep me going. We had lots of fantastic food too!
"I had a lovely surprise from Amanda from the Great North Ambulance when we went for a meal with some great surprises including a certificate of how much I have raised and a game, and more, plus a signed shirt from The Newcastle Falcons team, which was amazing!"
