The EDF Renewables UK team is urging local residents to attend community consultation events to review and provide feedback on a preliminary design proposal for the Liddesdale wind farm.

This proposed onshore wind farm, situated within Wauchope Forest and Newcastleton Forest, has the potential to generate 400MW of power, enough to supply approximately 231,000 homes.

The project aims to allocate £5,000 per megawatt of installed capacity annually to a community benefit fund for local communities.

The community is invited to meet the project team and discuss the proposal at three different events.

The first event will take place on August 30 at Newcastleton Village Hall, followed by an event on August 31 at Southdean Village Hall, and finally on September 5 at Kielder Primary School.

This wind farm is still in the early stages of development.

In late June, a Scoping Report was submitted to Scottish Ministers through the Energy Consents Unit, outlining the potential for up to 80 wind turbines, along with a battery storage system and solar development on the site.

Andrew Bennett, development project manager at EDF Renewables UK, said: “These exhibition events will provide information on our approach to the project, and how we intend to develop Liddesdale wind farm in-step with local communities and the surrounding natural environment.

“We encourage people to come along to these upcoming events to discuss the proposals for the wind farm and provide feedback on how a renewable energy project in the local area could support local projects and aspirations."
