A NEW goal has been issued for the completion of a flat complex after it fails to reach its aim of being fully completed this year.
YoungsRPS, the estate agent handling 'The Wool House' on Gilsgate, Hexham (Hexham's former swimming pool) believes the site is 'progressing well' and will soon be inviting members of the public in to view a 'show appartment' at the end of this year.
They also hope that the building, developed by Willow House and features 45 luxury apartments, duplexes and penthouses across six floors, will be fully completed by Easter 2024.
The former swimming pool site was redundant after the new pool opened at the Wentworth Leisure Centre in 2008, which also houses a state-of-the-art gym, bowling alley and cafe, and is ran by Active Northumberland.
Hexham Swimming Pool was then put up for sale in 2016 and it wasn’t long before plans were unanimously approved by Northumberland County Council’s strategic planning committee.
The pool was formerly a wool warehouse, which has inspired the development's ‘the Wool House’ name.
Developers hoped to see the complex completed in March, this year, but since starting the work in 2020, the completion date has been pushed back several times.
The recent push back was due to problems accessing materials in the previous year which led to delays.
Despite the setbacks, developers were able to move forward in other ways such as agreeing on a selling price which is £155k for one bed flats and £250k for two bed flats,
It also announced that the appointment of Hexham’s long established builders’ merchant, Matthew Charlton, is to supply all the kitchens and appliances for the scheme.
With the news of an end date more or less confirmed, YoungsRPs feels confident they will be able to attain this goal and hope this will encourage more buyers to look into the flats.
William Thornton, Head of Residential Agency said: "The Wool House continues to generate plenty of interest and now given that we are able to discuss the build program with confidence, we have see an increase in reservation. With buyers not want to miss out on the unique apartment that they are wanting."
