WE asked our readers what they thought Hexham town centre needed. Here's what they said.

1 Better shopping

Joyce Bunn said: "No more charity shops, barbers or hairdressers, a decent clothes shop or two and a supermarket in the town not on the outskirts. And a good tidy up and clean."

Lisa Buchanan said: "Clothes shops people can actually afford, in the town centre that is."

Emma Marshall said there should be more facilities for children.

4 Improved marketplace

Margaret Ainsley said: "A fantastic market like it used to be, a great place."

5 Cheaper rent for shops

Emma Marshall also said the shops should be cheaper to rent.

Paul Stead said: "Cheaper business rates to allow folk to open new shops and businesses."

Gayle Foster said: "A thriving market on a Tuesday and Saturday, maybe reduce rents to encourage new traders. Reduce rents and rates to encourage more businesses to move in."

6 Indoor skate park

Amber Lauren said: "Indoor skate park. A trampoline park on the outskirts."

7 Pump track

James Coates said Hexham needed a pump track at Tyne Green.

9 More affordable housing

Jessica Hartshorne said: "Affordable housing that isn’t all new builds."

10 Improved road links

Steven Pigg said: "Some better road links and parking, they’ve built the whole place into a bottleneck, as for the centre it needs to be traffic lights or a roundabout not both."
