A new play scripted by Ian La Frenais OBE with music and lyrics by Jimmy Nail is set to debut at Live Theatre Newcastle.
Bill Kenwright Productions and Live Theatre, Newcastle Upon Tyne, will present the first staged reading of 'Seconds Away!' from 6-17 February 2024.
The play, starring Jimmy Nail, offers an exclusive opportunity to experience the journey of a new work.
Jimmy Nail, who takes on the role of Frankie Tanner said: “I am delighted to be returning to Live Theatre and to Newcastle Upon Tyne, my spiritual home, to team up with Ian (La Frenais) and to bring Seconds Away! to the stage."
From an original idea with commissioned compositions written by Nail, it features a live band performing with a cast including local legends Peter Tickell and Ray Laidlaw of Lindisfarne.
The two-act play centres around Fighting Frankie Tanner, a former boxing champion coping with personal struggles.
Set in Newcastle Upon Tyne, it explores themes of personal battle, enduring values, family strife and regional pride.
Nail is known for his roles in TV series Crocodile Shoes, Parents of the Band, and stage musicals The Last Ship and The War of the Worlds.
Tickets priced at £30 are available from www.live.org.uk or Box Office on (0191) 232 1232.
