A man aiming to cycle the entire UK mainland coastline hopes to raise £5,000 for mental health charity Mind.

Starting September 14, Adam Sims, who lived in Hexham for 17 years up until 2022, will pedal approximately 4,500 miles in 45 days.

Adam's wife, Christina, developed a serious mental health condition three years ago.

While on an Antarctic cruise in March, she took ill and required psychiatric treatment at a hospital in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Upon their return to the UK, she was admitted to an NHS hospital in Worthing.

After weeks of hospital care, Christina is 'much better', and will join Adam on the fundraiser via public transport.

During the difficult moments surrounding her admissions, Adam, 59, found solace and support from Mind.

Ian O’Reilly, Head of Community & Events Fundraising at Mind, said: “We are really grateful to Adam for choosing to support Mind through this long distance cycle ride, and we wish him well.

“Every donation that Mind receives allows us to campaign to improve services and provide information and support. This includes through services such as the Mind Infoline, legal line and our online peer support community for adults, Side by Side, so we can be there for as many people who need us as possible.”
