WHO LET the dogs out?  Well apparently it was Northumberland Greyhound Rescue for their participation in their annual event at Tyne Green in Hexham.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners were out in force with their owners on Sunday, September 24 for the annual Great Global Greyhound charity walk and show.

An event that is an annual dog-walking event and brings together greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners to raise awareness of the breeds and show the public just what wonderful pets they make.

Last year there was 10,620 sighthounds walked around the globe across 432 walks in 29 countries.

During the day participants received a certificate and prizes during the walk.

Jenny Thomas, the organiser said:"Hexham was one of the top walks not only in the UK but across the world all walking on the same day to promote the breed.

"This event really gives the opportunity for people to see what fantastic, loving, calm, versatile pets greyhounds make.

"All the dogs and owners had an amazing time, one happy walker commented “I can’t imagine all these dogs behaving so well, I didn’t hear a single bark or growl. They are such lovely natured dogs”.  “We had a fabulous day”.  “it really is a global greyhound day with so many countries taking part but Hexham should be proud, Northumberland at its best”.  Tired but happy by the end of the day it was a Paws up from all the participants.

"The theme of flags, gave owners the chance to show what a truly global event this walk has become.

"Despite heavy rain, spirits could not be dampened.

"With certificates, rosettes for the show, prizes galore plus plenty of treats for all the hungry hounds the afternoon was a great success.

"The Northumberland Rescue greyhounds who joined the walk looking for a new owner, are keeping their paws crossed that someone might have spotted them and will offer them a forever home.

"The event also raised over £1200 pounds for Northumberland Greyhound Rescue, huge thanks to all the amazing sponsors and the participants for their incredible generosity."
