Hexham Morrismen are looking for people to try their hand at Morris Dancing.

The group will be hosting an open night on October 26 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, allowing people the chance to have a go at the hobby.

Taking place at Acomb Village Hall, the evening is open to all.

Secretary Roger Kennington said: “After a slow start last summer following Covid we are now back to full throttle. This year we have done 30 separate performances ranging from evenings outside local pubs, to village fetes and the North of England’s biggest Folk Festival at Whitby where we received an enthusiastic reception.

"Also a film (Typist Artist Pirate King with Monica Dolan and Kelly McDonald) and TV series (The Reckoning starring Steve Coogan) have just been released where the Hexham Morrismen make cameo appearances!

"Morris dancing is a great hobby: good exercise, very relaxing, excellent company often in a local hostelry with a music session. It gets pretty challenging but the entry level dances are quite easy to pick up, so someone starting now is likely to have a few dances under their belt to perform next Spring.

"You don’t need any experience, just to be reasonably fit and have a desire to get out and enjoy yourself. You can also pride yourself in carrying forward one of England’s oldest traditions!"

Those interested in joining can contact Roger on 07450213490 or at rogerkennington@gmail.com.

Hexham Morrismen also dance with sister group Hexhamshire Lasses who meet on Mondays.
