A FORMER chapel could become a family home if a planning application is approved in Allendale.
The application site comprises the existing dwelling known as Chapel House and Langley Methodist Chapel.
The application, submitted to Northumberland County Council, proposes to convert the chapel into a three-bedroom home and use Chapel House for holiday-letting accommodation.
A report included in the planning documents said a small extension to the east elevation of the chapel will be constructed, along with demolishing the garage to Chapel House and creating two double driveways to serve both properties.
Eight conservation-style roof lights would be installed in the south-facing elevation of the chapel's roof slope and existing window openings would be extended, along with creating new window and door openings.
"The main issue to consider therefore falls on whether the works required to convert the building to residential use would preserve or enhance its significance," the report said.
"The proposed conversion would protect the fabric of the original building by retaining the original chapel, entrance on the west elevation and later addition to the east."
The report said the proposed conversion and extension of the chapel would respect the character of the building and preserve the significance of the building.
