Age UK Northumberland is hosting two dementia workshops this month, aiming to help those living with dementia, their family, and carers.
The workshops have been developed for family and carers to be given the chance to improve knowledge and skills which can be used to support people who are living with dementia.
Some of the topics that are covered by the workshops include facts about dementia, overcoming communication barriers, responding to strong feelings, empathy and validation and creating a positive social environment.
The workshops will help those who attend to identify feelings and needs of people who are living with dementia, interpret messages, and to recognise triggers.
The training course, 'Learning from Living with Dementia', has been co-produced by people who are living with the condition.
It has won the award for Best Dementia Training Initiative 2019 in the National Dementia Care Awards.
The workshops will take place at Merton Hall, Ponteland, on October 23 and The Round House, Ashington on October 25, from 9am to 5pm.
Attendance of the workshops is free but booking is necessary.
Please schedule a spot via calling 07977 071467 or emailing jo.linton@ageuk-northumberland.org.uk.
