A devoted police officer is gearing up to run seven marathons in seven days for his son who has a rare illness.
Northumbria Police officer PC Ian Milbourne is raising money for Amy and Friends, a charity supporting children living with Trichothiodystrophy (TTD) - a rare genetic condition affecting his 11-year-old son Cameron.
When Cameron was diagnosed, he was one amongst approximately 200 children globally with an official diagnosis.
Amy and Friends not only offer vital assistance and support but also cover travel costs for medical treatments across the UK.
PC Milbourne's gruelling challenge commences on Monday, October 23, culminating on Sunday, October 29, at Ashington Cricket Club.
His daily route will traverse parts of Wylam, Newcastle and Gateshead.
This arduous task trails a year after PC Milbourne accomplished 30 half marathons in 30 days, managing to raise over £5,500.
Speaking on the looming challenge, PC Milbourne said: "I’m looking forward to doing the marathons although I know it’s going to be tough.
"The hardest part so far has been going out and training on my own so often.
"It’s been a massive undertaking, but it’s important to put the work in and I know that I’m doing the challenge for such a worthy cause.
"The choice for this year’s challenge was to either do the marathons or jump out of a plane, so I was happy to do the running!"
Following the conclusion of his marathon challenge, Ashington Cricket Club is set to host a Halloween-themed celebration event, with attendees encouraged to come in fancy dress.
He is expected to complete the challenge at 5pm, with spectators requested to assemble at 4.45pm to applaud him over the finish line.
PC Milbourne expressed his gratitude towards the public and his policing colleagues for their staunch support for his appeal, having already raised nearly £2,000 towards a £7,000 goal.
He said: "I can’t thank everyone enough.
"To anybody who has donated or is going to, please be aware that it is greatly appreciated."
