North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has signed Unison's Anti-Racism Charter as of September's end.
Aimed to improve public sector organisations' response to racism over the next 12 months, the charter supports organisations to help deliver a range of commitments.
This helps to improve performance, outcomes for victims, and ensures organisations are accountable.
NEAS leaders committed to recognising the need and benefit for a racially diverse workforce, challenging racism, understanding racism's impact on staff wellbeing, and regularly reviewing strategies to improve racial equality and inclusion.
Brian Dodds, Unison Branch Secretary at NEAS, said: “By signing UNISON’s Anti-Racism Charter, NEAS is setting an example about the way employers should value all their staff.
“It is commendable that NEAS have moved quickly to support the Charter, becoming only the second organisation in the region to sign up. Hopefully many others will sign up soon too.”
