An illegal drug supplier has been jailed for more than 11 years.

Paul Richardson, 36, was exposed by a special operation that penetrated his encrypted device, revealing widespread drug dealing throughout the North East.

Richardson's associates, Craig Fraser and Christopher Finlay, had been working covertly to distribute cocaine and cannabis during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Northumbria Police's Serious and Organised Crime team headed the investigation, exposing the procurement of drugs and utilisation of rental cars to deliver shipments between March and June 2020.

The trio were apprehended in December that year, charged and remanded in custody.

Finlay and Fraser were both jailed in spring this year after appearing at Newcastle Crown Court, admitting conspiracy to supply.

Appearing in the same court this week, Richardson pleaded guilty to the same charge, resulting in an 11 year, 8-month jail term.

The collective imprisonment time for the group totals 29 and a half years.

Detective Chief Inspector Marc Michael of Northumbria Police said: “We will use every tool at our disposal to seize and destroy illegal drugs and systematically dismantle the criminal groups behind their supply.

“I hope this result shows how dedicated we are to taking action and would encourage anyone who suspects illegal drug dealing or is worried about suspicious activity in their area to get in touch.”
