A Tynedale school and youth group have paid tributes to a former deputy headteacher and treasurer who always 'had a keen interest in Hexham' even in his retirement.
Staff and pupils at Queen Elizabeth High School, along with Hexham Youth Initiative, have expressed their deepest sympathies to the family of former deputy headteacher Neil Morrison, who passed away last month.
Graeme Atkins, executive headteacher at Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School, said: "All of us at QE and HMS are shocked and saddened at the passing of Neil, who had been deputy headteacher at the high school then federation headteacher across both schools following a period of headship at Whickham School in Gateshead.
"Neil was a highly respected leader and a thoroughly nice person and is remembered fondly.
"Neil maintained a keen interest in Hexham following his retirement in 2014 and continued to contribute to the community as a trustee of Hexham Youth Initiative.
"Our deepest sympathies go to Neil’s wife Julia and their two sons."
A spokesperson from the Hexham Youth Initiative said: "Neil was a kind and caring man who always supported young people and gave generously of his time and energy.
"He was an excellent treasurer who will be deeply missed by all at HYI."
