A FULL schedule of events will brighten the town's streets throughout December.
Visit Hexham has published an events schedule which includes everything from a magical music trail and a buskers' night to Christmas concerts and films on show at the cinema.
Some other events include a CBeebies Panto, a willow wreath workshop, the Hexham Christmas Markets, the Abbey Fair and Farmers' Market.
Hexham's one-way system will be temporarily lifted from Saturday, December 2 so traffic arrangements can return to normal during the Christmas trading period.
The one-way system will be re-instated by Monday, January 8 to enable the final phase of work to take place.
Mayor of Hexham Derek Kennedy said: "We did a fantastic show of putting on our brand-new Christmas lights. They're really spectacular this year, the Town Council has put a lot more money into them.
"Onwards into December, we've got a huge array of fantastic events that all the different organisations have put on, whether that is the Queen's Hall for pantomimes or the cinema for Christmas shows.
"We're making Hexham a really busy and entertaining affair, we want people to come and visit, be entertained, enjoy themselves and go to the local restaurants, pubs and buy gifts from the local shops," he added.
Northumberland County Councillor Wojciech Ploszaj, cabinet member for Supporting Business and Opportunities said: “Christmas is always a really busy time so temporarily removing the one-way system during this period will make life easier for both traders and the public and help support local businesses."
“We really appreciate the patience of residents and businesses. It’s not always easy but it is the only way to get the work done quickly and safely and bring much-needed improvements to the streetscape of this beautiful and historic town," he said.
Janie French of Hexham Community Partnership, which owns Visit Hexham, said: "Hexham has a great range of events in December ranging from the Christmas Market to family shows at the Queen's Hall to very special events at the stunning Abbey.
"The all-new Christmas lights look wonderful, the roadworks are suspended until January and over 70 businesses are taking part in the Magical Music Trail, so bring on December in Hexham."
Suzanne Fairless-Aitken, town and county councillor for Hexham East, said: "The Christmas event calendar in Hexham is jam-packed – so that’s my party-season calendar full. I love the fabulous Hexham Christmas Market, especially when The Abbey opens up their bell tower, a personal favourite of mine. I’m booked in for Snow White at the Queen’s Hall, followed by the Forum Cinema’s Christmas movie feast – The Apartment and Die Hard are in the diary," she said.
