The festive season has changed irreversibly for families dealing with dementia.
More than 39,000 people are living with dementia in the North East.
More than a third of people with dementia are unable to visit loved ones, and 27 per cent can no longer recognise family members.
A survey by Alzheimer's Society reveals that 65 per cent of current carers feeling 'robbed' of a carefree and joyful festive season.
Helen Mayne, Regional Manager for Alzheimer’s Society in the North East, said: “One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime.
“Too many people are facing dementia alone. We want everyone affected by dementia to know that whoever you are, whatever you’re going through, you can turn to Alzheimer’s Society for help.
“If you’re able to, please help us be there for everyone living with dementia this Christmas whatever the day brings, by donating to our Christmas Appeal.”
