A GRADE II listed cottage could be renovated on the outskirts of town.
A planning application has been submitted to Northumberland County Council, by Mrs Lamb of Nunwick Estate, to renovate a listed building known as the Garden Cottage.
The cottage, located east of The Hermitage near Hexham, was an occupied residence with gardens and greenhouses but has been empty for some years and 'is suffering from neglect and lack of maintenance', according to a structural appraisal document.
The house was built in the early 18th century and has an adjacent outbuilding.
"The main stonework structure and roof look to be in good condition but the floors and interiors are in poor condition. There has been a fire in the west room to the ground floor and this has affected the first floor above which has been partially destroyed by the fire and is unsafe," the document added.
The outdoor greenhouses will also be reconstructed and the outdoor toilet will be removed.
"The proposals will transform the property back to a usable dwelling to a high specification with minimum intervention and conserving the building for many years to come," the document concluded.
Acomb Parish Council did not object to the application.
