WE shared the news that new 'affordable houses' could be built in Hexham if developers get the green light.
Castles & Coasts Housing Association (CCHA) aims to ease the shortage of affordable homes in Hexham with the submission of a planning application for 29 proposed new homes north of Corbridge Road in the east end of Hexham.
Here's how readers reacted.
Bill Moulding commented: "It’s social housing that’s needed."
Roger Higgins said: "Over a mile out of town. Totally unsustainable location."
Gary Enever said: "Most of these houses are three or four bedrooms, will not be affordable to people on average incomes. They will not be cheap."
Jennie Wright added: "I’d love to see their proposed figures on what they will cost. Shared ownership does not mean affordable. It allows people to get a more affordable mortgage so that on paper they can say they are a homeowner.
"The reality is they still pay rent as well as the mortgage and it’s not cheap."
Jayson Keable said: "Just can't please people. Whenever they hear about a commercial development it's "they should be building more houses" and whenever they're building more houses it's "they should be building affordable housing" and when they're building affordable housing, they're still finding something to whinge about."
