WARM spaces have been created across Northumberland to offer a place where people can relax in a safe and warm environment.
Community Action Northumberland (CAN) created the long-established and award-winning Warm Hubs project to provide a network of warm, energy-efficient community venues acting as focal points for energy support and advice.
CAN states its Warm Hubs project is vital. Its website said that 40.7 per cent (151,885) of Northumberland's 316,000-strong population live in rural areas. Of these, more than 20 per cent are 65-plus, nearly 10 per cent have a limiting long-term illness and 11.5 per cent are income-deprived.
There are 24 of CAN's Warm Hubs across Northumberland and 11 in Tynedale where people can find support, while there are also separate Northumberland Warm Spaces established by voluntary groups and community organisations.
Warm Hubs and Warm Spaces have been set up in community centres, church halls, libraries and community hubs across Northumberland.
