POWER cuts and disruption have been reported across the region caused by the UK's latest storm.
70mph overnight winds caused by Storm Isha have led to power cuts, fallen trees, and school closures across Tynedale.
A yellow weather warning is in place across the UK.
The Met Office said in today's forecast: "Storm Isha will gradually pull away from the UK, though it will remain windy for all, with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent in the north and west. Feeling chilly.
"Showers will generally ease through the evening, though will continue across the northwest of the UK through the night. Dry, with clear spells elsewhere. Winds easing for a time."
Storm Isha disrupted power supplies, with approximately 32,479 Northern Powergrid customers affected by the storm, and those in Northumberland worst impacted.
Northern Powergrid reported it had restored power to 84 per cent of customers affected by Storm Isha as of January 22, with power restored to more than 25,260 customers.
Northern Powergrid’s Director of Field Operations, Andy Bilclough, said: “We knew Storm Isha would be hitting our regions and we were ready and prepared to respond as quickly as possible.
"We have seen disruption but we’ve made good progress in getting the power back on for 84 per cent of those whose power supply was impacted by the storm. We understand the impact a power cut can have on our communities and our engineers will continue to do everything possible to assess the scale of the damage and prioritise the repairs.
"Our main priority is to get the customers who don’t have power back on as quickly as possible, support our customers throughout this time and ensure our people can work safely as soon as the conditions allow.”
Hexham Priory School posted on Facebook this morning (January 22) that a power cut at the school meant pupils would have to be sent home.
Bellingham Middle and Primary Schools both had to close as surrounding roads are inaccessible.
Greenhaugh, Kielder and Otterburn Primary Schools are also closed.
Hadrian Vets, based in Hexham, also shared this morning that the business had no power, meaning staff had no access to phones or computers, but they hoped to be reconnected later in the day.
The post advised people if they had an emergency to call Westway Veterinary Hospital on 01912747910 to be seen.
Fallen trees were also reported yesterday evening (January 21), on roads including the B6318 between the A68 roundabout and Acomb turning.
Bellingham's main road, the B6320, was blocked by a tree early this morning.
If you have been impacted by a power cut and have not heard from Northern Powergrid, call 105 or use the website to report online at www.northernpowergrid.com/power-cuts.
