MEMBERS of a popular club were dressed 'to the nines' as they celebrated their milestone anniversary with a band, delicious food, and an award ceremony.
Hexham & District Motorclub was glad to celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sunday, January 21, at Hexham Mart with its enthusiastic club attendees.
As well as celebrating the momentous achievement, members were joined by their special guest, the famous motorsport presenter and enthusiast Tony Jardine, to share his tales and tribulations of a long and successful career and hand out the awards to our winners.
After the ceremony, a live band played as a tribute to the dinner dances of yesteryear after a delicious three-course meal. Members were able to dance to a brilliant mix of music courtesy of the local band ‘Mac3. ‘
During the event, when the band took a short break, attendees also enjoyed the opportunity to win some prizes in the raffle, which was rounded off by an intense auction for a few select lots, including a bottle of champagne signed by the late great Paddy Hopkirk, a framed print of a Rothmans Ford escort and some original memorabilia from the Monte Carlo rallies which a kind member competed in.
Chairman Jonathon Webb said: "I am excited for the future of the club as we continue to promote clubman's motorsport in the NorthEast and look to share current members' successes as well as welcome new members to our ever-expanding club.
"Thank you to all of those who attended last night's celebration.
"Well done to all of our award winners, including our marshals who participated in their own championship. Many thanks to all the other club members who helped organise the event; it was a great success.
"Special thanks also to Tony Jardine for being present, providing some great motorsport stories, and presenting the awards.
"We look forward to returning to the Hexham Auction Mart for the 2024 running of the John Robson and Hexham Historic road rally in three weeks.
"There’s still one entry left and marshals are always welcome."
