An exhibition celebrating the diverse staff of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is on display at North Tyneside General Hospital.
Created by photographer Ikuko Tsuchiya, the project was organised by Bright Northumbria Healthcare Charity’s healing arts programme in collaboration with the trust’s staff networks.
Overseas heritage, disability, neurodiversity and D/deafness all feature prominently in the photographs as the project seeks to showcase a broad spectrum of the workforce.
Nigerian-born Dorathy Oparaeche, a diabetes specialist nurse, appreciated the focus on diverse cultures and traditions. She said: “Nigeria is a diverse multi-ethnic country with more than 520 spoken languages and cultures.
“While English is the official language, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo are also major languages in the country.
“What I miss most about Nigeria is our traditional food, especially that of the Igbo culture."
Kate Thompson, Northumbria Healthcare’s executive director of people and organisational development said: “The exhibition is fantastic and a great way of celebrating the differences of our staff."
