Restaurant Pine in Northumberland is celebrating retaining both its Michelin and Green Michelin Star for the third year running.
Chefs Cal Byerley and Ian Waller discovered their success at the Michelin awards for Great Britain and Ireland, held on February 5 at The Midland Hotel in Manchester.
Chefs and professionals from across the restaurant and hospitality industry were present to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the prestigious Michelin Guide, and to celebrate a series of awards.
Besides the Michelin stars, accolades such as the Service Award, The Sommelier Award, the Cocktail Award, the Mentor Chef Award, and the Young Chef Award were also given.
At this year’s ceremony, a total of eighteen new Michelin One Star, six Michelin Green Stars, and six Michelin Two Star awards were presented, along with one new Michelin Three Star award.
However, for chefs Byerley and Waller, the evening was about their successful retention of Restaurant Pine's Stars.
Their venue's Michelin Guide review praised their use of local Northumbrian ingredients, stating: "The open kitchen takes centre stage at Cal and Siân Byerley’s rustic restaurant, where they’re all about showcasing Northumbrian ingredients.
"Cal knows the local area intimately and, as well as plucking fresh ingredients from their kitchen garden, leads his team on foraging missions and seeks out small independent producers.'
Chefs Byerley and Waller say that it has been 'mad' since opening the restaurant.
They said: "To retain our Michelin Star and Michelin Green Star is amazing, and just goes to show what hard work and dedication to what you do day in, day out can really achieve.
"Here’s to every single member of the Pine team - thanks for your hard work and effort!
"We couldn’t do what we do without you and while we are at it let’s not forget a big thanks to the farmers, growers and producers we work with too."
Siân Byerley, co-owner of Restaurant Pine, expressed her pride in her team.
She said: "Every single one of us in the team has worked incredibly hard since being presented with our Star in 2022, and the fact that we’ve been lucky enough to retain both our Green star and our Star shows that they still are."
