A man who was born in Soulby near Kirkby Stephen has released his debut novel, centred on a former stockbroker turned pheasant farmer.
Written by David L Haigh, who spent 20 years living in Carlisle, "Land Kill" is a crime novel which tells the story of a pheasant farmer entangled in a web of arson, kidnapping and murder.
The farmer is the last person to have spoken to a murdered Northumbrian poacher.
The idea for the novel came from an acquaintance of Mr Haigh who he met more than 50 years ago at a pub in Essex while he was a horticultural student.
The man, a previous high flyer in the world of finance, had renounced city living to farm pheasants in the countryside.
The backdrop for Mr Haigh's novel is Hadrian’s Wall, an area familiar to the author from his time in Carlisle.
The story unfolds as DCI Jeff Spencer probes into the crimes, suspecting links to the farmer's previous life in finance.
The novel is available in Kindle and Paperback formats on Amazon.
