A mischievous five-year-old golden retriever from Hexham has officially been crowned the muckiest pup in Britain.
Obi, who lives with his owner Susan on a farm with her other golden retriever, Burt, and her three horses, has been named Dr. Beckmann’s first-ever Mucky Pet Award.
He was named the winner ahead of National Love Your Pet Day on February 20, after impressing a panel of judges with his love of mud.
Susan said: “Obi is without a doubt the muckiest pup around, Dr. Beckmann couldn’t have picked a more worthy winner. Getting muddy is his favourite thing to do, and he gets himself into the right state almost every time he leaves the house.
“Living on a farm means there are plenty of places for him to get dirty, but as long as he’s having fun, it doesn’t bother me, I think it’s hilarious most of the time – except when he runs upstairs all over my cream carpet covered in mud or uses his tail as a weapon to knock over cups and glasses.
“And there was one time that he found himself exploring a drainage pipe, it’s fair to say that’s not an experience I want to relive.”
“I go through at least two bottles of Pet Stain & Odour Remover a week cleaning up after the dogs, I would definitely recommend it to pet owners as it’s the only thing that I’ve found that 100% works – especially on cream carpets.”
Obi won a £250 voucher and a personalised Pet Stain & Odour Remover and a professional photoshoot and a canvas paw-trait for his deserving owner.
Natasha Brook, Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, said: "We’re thrilled to announce Obi as the first Dr. Beckmann Mucky Pet Award winner. Obi's mischievous spirit and love for muddy adventures captured our hearts and showcased the essence of the unique accolade.
“At Dr. Beckmann, we understand the special bond between pets and their owners, and Obi's triumph celebrates the delightful chaos that comes with having a lovable messy companion. We commend Susan for embracing the joy that Obi brings.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the paw-fect pair and look forward to sharing in the joy of many more muddy adventures ahead!"
