A science fiction museum is hosting its own relaxed and intimate 'Monster Con'.
The Museum of Classic Sci-Fi is hosting a monster-themed convention gathering on Saturday, April 20 at the Allendale Village Hall from 11am till 5.30pm.
The day is organised to allow guests to meet some of Doctor Who’s legendary monster makers and special effects artists while being in an intimate and relaxed environment.
Museum creator and curator Neil Cole said:"The museum’s core aim is to make the incredible and fantastic accessible to everyone.
"Personally, I don’t like the large queues and ‘quick signing’ model that the larger cons adopt.
"Our small events are really an extension of the museum itself – a chance to relax and meet fellow fans and also talk to some of the amazingly talented people who created our favourite shows and movies.’
Confirmed as attending the event is BAFTA award-winning special effects artist Mike Tucker – famed for his work on both classic and new eras of Doctor Who (winning a BAFTA for his work on ‘Day of the Doctor’) and creating the lion’s share of miniature effects for cult classic Red Dwarf, Top Madam Tussauds’ sculptor Stephen Mansfield, Dr Who monster creator Robert Allsopp’s Robert and writer Glen McCoy.
Two of the ‘new breed’ of monster makers from the new series of Doctor Who – Phil Robinson and Hal Townsend – will also be attending and will be happy to talk about their fantastic work creating The Wraiths and Beep the Meep for the recent episode The Star Beast.
Reeltime Pictures founder- Keith Barnfather, will also be on hand during the premiere screening of Reeltime’s new documentary ‘The Monster Man’ which is all included in the event ticket price.
This new documentary looks at Museum of Classic Sci-Fi creator Neil Cole’s painstaking three-decade-long work restoring classic monsters and creatures from Doctor Who and other movies.
Neil will also be on hand to discuss the film afterwards and copies of the DVD will be available at the event at an exclusive special price!
