A NEW defibrillator has been installed and connected after a grieving widow’s successful fundraiser.

Angela Newsome was pleased to unveil a new defibrillator at Prudhoe Fire Station on February 26,  which she had fundraised for in memory of her husband Jeff who suffered a sudden and fatal heart attack and died on May 29, 2022, at 68 years old.

After Jeff's funeral, Angela organised the fundraiser on October 22 at the Dr Syntax pub which involved a bouncy castle, face painting, food stalls and a DJ.

The day was hailed as a success it raised £560, enough for the rest of the defibrillator funds and to distribute to two charitable causes.

Jeff was part of the motorbike community called the Infidels Motorcycle Club, which raised £950 to contribute to the defibrillator. 

Speaking about the defibrillator, Angela said: “It was the day of my husband’s funeral when I decided I needed to raise funds for a community defibrillator and now it’s fitted, I feel both emotional seeing Jed’s name above the box and also proud knowing that one day the defib could potentially save a life.

"It was the support from the Infidels MCC and local Councillors Gordon Stewart and Jane Johnson who made Jed’s legacy possible.

"Wherever you live, make it your mission to find the defibrillators within your area as no one is immune to a cardiac arrest”.

County Cllr Gordon Stewart who represents Prudhoe South and is the NFRS Chair adds: “This wonderful gesture will support the community for years to come."
