Go North East is looking to recruit more female bus drivers.
The company has the goal of achieving 50 per cent gender parity by 2035 with its 'Go-Ahead Women' initiative.
This move marks significant change in the traditionally male-dominated transport sector.
As part of the mission, Go-Ahead is pumping £8 million into upgrading bus depot facilities, building inclusive work environments for women.
Recent statistics show women only fill 10 per cent of roles in the bus industry, with just 11.5 per cent of Go-Ahead's driver roles occupied by women.
"Gender equality isn't just a goal – it's a commitment to building a better future for all", said Matt Carney, bus CEO for Go-Ahead.
Carolyn Ferguson, chief people officer for the Go-Ahead Group, spoke of their belief in diversifying their workforce and creating a sustainable future.
Go North East encourages women to apply, offering an eight-week paid training program.
